Dr. Moutsios received her undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering a from Duke University, and received her MD degree from the University of Florida. She completed a combined Med-Peds Residency and Pediatric Chief Residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Her first academic appointment was as the first Med-Peds Program DIrector at Vanderbilt in 1998, immediately following her chief year- and she has been in that role ever since! She oversaw the creation of the combined med-peds faculty and resident practices, which now have a vibrant faculty of 11 and resident cohort of 24, who practice together in the same clinical setting. She is currently the president of the Med-Peds Program Directors Association (MPPDA) and considers her MPPDA family to be her academic home. She loves practicing and teaching primary care medicine and teaching clinical reasoning skills. She has her own busy primary care faculty practice, attends and oversees the med-peds resident practice, and does direct observations of clinical skills with individual students on the medicine clerkship (3 hours per student per rotation!) She was part of the original faculty and curriculum design team for the VPIL program (Vanderbilt Program in Inter-professional Learning) where a medical student, NP student, pharmacy student and social work masters student are placed together in clinics in working/learning teams. She finds great joy in creating assessment workshops for ACGME the past two years, and enjoys the breadth of that faculty audience. Her professional interest in medical education is in assessment – teaching feedback, coaching and direction observation to core faculty. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to participate as the MPPDA member on the APDIM council and APDIM program planning this year.
